Ahn set the tone early on with his frenetic style of play, bombarding NYC in transition until they just looked overwhelmed. Ahn's new team is built for his run & gun style of play.

Runner-Up: Greg Loeffert (ROC) 22 pts, 10 reb
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers

Greg Loeffert (ROC) 10 reb, 3 stl

Not only did Loeffert score a game high 22 pts, he led his team in rebs from the PG position. A very solid all around outing for the diminutive (G).

Runner-Up: Chris Youn (NGC) 13 reb, 3 stl, 2 blk
Wat Misaka Defensive Player of the Week

Chris Youn (NGC) 13 reb, 3 stl, 2 blk

The veteran Youn may not always be thought of as a defender, but he has always been crafty on the defensive end. Quick feet, quicker hands.

Runner-Up: Sam Nam (NYC) 15 reb, 1 stl, 5 blk
The High-5 Club

Andrew Ahn (DEM) 21-10-1-1-1
Sam Nam (NYC) 1-15-1-1-5
Chris Youn (NGC) 12-13-3-3-2

Spot Dessert Bar™ Rookie of the Week

D. Cunningham (NYC) 21 pts, 14 reb

Despite a season opening loss, NYCE got a nice effort from their rookie Cunningham who came up with a big double-double for his team.

Runner-Up: Eric White (REN) 19 pts, 6 reb, 7 ast
The "John Starks" Award

Elitar Kim (NYC) | 2-11 FGs (.182)

In his almost annual return to FBNYC, the veteran guard could not find the shooting touch in the season opener. We're only getting older.

Dishonorable Mention: Adam Hill (ROC) 1-8 FGs
The "Chris Dudley" Award

D. Cunningham (NYC) | 4-8 FTs

In the end, these FTs might not have made much difference, but NYC shot 5-14 as a team. Can't leave points on the board in this division.

Dishonorable Mention: Sam Nam (NYC) 1-4 FTs

INSIDE THE STATS

FBN (F) Youssef Hulse's 22.3 ppg this post season is a career best. He scored no less than 20 pts in any playoff game this spring.

Hulse has averaged 21.7 ppg and 9.3 rpg in 3 career championship games.
MLK HS, NYC -- For two consecutive seasons, the Breakers have hardly looked like the best team in the field going in to the playoffs. And, neither did they clearly look like the better team in the final game. But, in two seasons, they have found a way to grind out wins in the biggest games despite their sometimes crucial mistakes. This could also be known as keeping it just close enough, and giving the ball to FBN (F) Youssef Hulse to close.

The two-time Championship MVP came through for his team once again. Every time it looked as if the Breakers had nothing left, Hulse made another big shot--almost identical to his effort in last season's title game.

Boomtown, to their great credit--did a stand out job of making this game a slugfest. They refused to give up anything in the paint, putting FBN on the line 29 times. The gambit, and their tireless hustle proved effective as an apparently exhausted FBN team made just 13 FTs. Boomtown out-rebounded the Breakers 49-35, and out shot them 73-44 from the field. BOO's downfall appeared to be their 27% shooting from the field, a difficult figure for any team to overcome. Of their 73 attempts, 21 came from behind the 3-point line. They made only 3.

Still, their effort on the offensive boards, led by (G) Jack Delighter & (F) Nate Jones gave the Breakers fits. FBN had to switch to a 2-3 zone in the 2nd half to adjust. And it worked, slowing the BOO attack. But, Boom's defense was stout, forcing overtime.

Late in the game, and in the extra period, FBN's offense shifted to a high pick and roll with Hulse at the helm. (C) Mo Ghumman came up to set the screen. FBN sat shooters in the corners, and let Hulse go to work. He scored 9 of FBN's last 12 pts in the game, including all 5 in OT.

At no point in this game did either team make it look easy. Even Hulse's play in the final minutes was hardly elegant (as the career 78% FT shooter shot just 7-15 from the line). This was a testament to a veteran team keeping it together just long enough for their best player to make a difference in crunch time. By now, perhaps it should be no surprise. Hulse did it again, and Fastbreak NYC is a repeat champion. -- FBNYC
