2K13 FALL Championship Recap - Showcase NYC
Showcase tops Basketball Reasons for first Premier title Showmen's lack of size reveals no lack of heart in gutsy upset win
MLK HS, NYC -- One thing you can definitively say about Showcase NYC through their championship run is that while they may have lacked size, they never lacked heart. After facing ups and downs in the first half of the season, Showcase won out to grab the no. 2 seed. They wouldn't lose again with 7 straight wins en route to the championship.

This was no small feat. Basketball Reasons was on fire coming into the chip. Not only did they come in playing their best basketball, they were bigger and more athletic than any other team in the league. Showcase is the Premier's smallest steam, but they have played every game with the kind of frantic tempo and edge that has tested the composure of all their opponents. BBR proved to be no different.
SHO started with better energy taking a 15-8 1st qtr lead. In the 2nd, the streaky (G) Brian Berrios heated up. BBR (G) Zack Simmons struggled to keep Berrios in front, and the young guard hit 3 consecutive 3FGs as the team started to pull away. But, Simmons to his credit, never let it get out of hand, getting equally assertive on offense.
Both players finished with 13 pts respectively at the half. Showcase carried a 7-pt lead. BBR (F) Michael Beal switched to Berrios, which quieted the shooter, but Showcase's full-court D forced BBR out of their offensive comfort zone.
The margin never really changed. Beal was huge in the 4th, doing a bit of everything, but BBR couldn't close on the quicker SHO. Every time BBR made a run, SHO answered. Late in the 4th, Berrios finally got free to make a fadeaway 3FG that was the dagger. SHO left a little drama by missing late FTs, but BBR never got closer than two possessions. By the end, it shouldn't have been a surprise. Not even an upset. Despite their lack of size, Showcase outworked every team during their championship run. They earned every inch of it, even the ones they didn't have. -- FBNYC[Boxscore]
