NEW YORK CITY -- When we opened up the possibility that the SL Night Owls could upset no. 1 seed DB First Class, we neglected to mention that the Owls did beat DFC in the regular season. That game was won at the buzzer with a turnaround 6-footer from rookie (F) Barry Nester. Not so much against JLP in the regular season. And, the Fashionistas were well aware of SNO's upset win. An Owls upset couldn't possibly happen again could it? The track record says it's very possible. Teams at this level aren't lacking in talent, just chemistry. The Owls have it now.

Which isn't to say the Fashionistas don't. This team has been playing well together for a long time with a couple of new pieces that fit in seamlessly. (G) Garrett James is an MVP candidate and he proved as much in the opening round win vs. PUN. An upset here isn't out of the question but it certainly won't be any easier than the first.

(G) Garrett James

A+

B+

(G) Owen Wang

JLP begins and ends with James. He is their MVP in every way. Even when he misses shots, they feed off him. Wang has been a solid set up man with a stand-out 1st rd performance.
(G) Drew Chen

B+

B

(G) Steve Liu

Chen had his best game of the season in the 1st rd win. If they get this kind of production consistently, the chip is theirs to lose. Liu is a veteran shooter who is due for a big game.
(F) Lamar Smith

A

B+

(F) Barry Nester

What JLP has in Smith is possibly the league's best 1-on-1 defender but a knee injury has been nagging. Nester is a bigger version of Ty Chan, hustle and flow. He's integral to SNO.
(F) Rich Chang

B+

A

(F) Will Cheung

Chang has been a good fit with JLP given their guards penchant for cutting, Chang likes to pass. Cheung does it all for SNO. If he gets it going, the Owls always have a chance.
(C) Victor Chia

B+

B+

(F) Phil Bausk

Chia was vital to JLP's 1st rd win. His floater was unguardable and did not miss. Bausk has been a great fit with SNO, providing needed size and some 3-pt range.

(G) T. Cuadrado
(G) Joe Li
(G) Kent Yeung
(F) Tymin Chan
JLP has historically preferred a short bench, particularly with veterans that could just as easily be inserted as starters. With the Cuadrado brothers phenoms coming off the pine, SNO has the best bench in the league, and with plenty of depth.

NEW YORK CITY -- Their Week 4 match-up was pivotal for both teams. It was UNV's 2nd straight win which helped them get on track for the rest of the season and it was essentially rock-bottom for the IVC Spartans, a pre-season pick to contend who had fallen to 1-3.

The Spartans wouldn't lose another game. Rookie (G) David Ri has filled in nicely in the absence of (G) James Choi and (G) Mark Lee and (G) Mike Kim have stepped up as well. Choi is, however, questionable for this game, as is Kim who tried to play with a broken hand last week.

The Uni's, however, are hitting full stride. With a combination of size and athleticism, they will be tough to knock off. They get it started on D and do most of their scoring in transition. But, they also have options in the paint and the very efficient (F) Askia Davis at the high post. -- The Jet

(G) Mark Lee

If UNV had one "shooter" Stanly might be it, he also finds a way to make some tough shots. Lee will have to run point if Choi/Kim are out. It may actually help his scoring.
(G) Antonio Jackson

B+

B+

(G) David Ri

Jackson prides himself on his defense and it is more often then not the catalyst to UNV's offense. If Choi/Kim are out, Ri gets the start, he's more than capable here.
(F) Jerry Howard

B+

B+

(F) Chris Youn

Both Howard and Youn are similar in that they are essentially playmakers from the (F) spot. Both control the ball well and have a knack for setting up their teammates.
(F) Askia Davis

A+

B

(F) Bada Hong

In Davis, UNV has the single most athletic player in the league. He can dominate on both sides of the ball. Hong is undersized but a gamer with a soft touch from 15'.
(C) Will Williams

B

B+

(F) Rowan Hardial

Williams is the captain of this team and is a physical presence in the paint. Hardial is more of a finesse player but is aggressive on defense with a non-stop motor.

UNV rotates its starters, all of their reserves could start if needed. If Choi or Kim were healthy they would be starting. They could still provide a spark off the bench if they choose to play but it's a gambit.
