NEW YORK CITY -- We couldn't have asked for a better match-up for the holidays and regular season finale. Both these teams have turned it around after significant roster additions. IVC has turned an 0-3 start into championship consideration and the Night Owls are becoming everyone's favorite underdog team.

Two young roster additions have been the answer. For the Spartans, the addition of rookie (G) David Ri has given IVC a much needed scorer and an able defender. He has given IVC the spark they have needed all season. And now, with (G) James Choi returning for the playoffs, a previously feeble offense backed up by a great defense, is looking rather potent. The story for SNO has been rookie (G) Manny Cuadrado. The 16-yo prep has been electric. With a nose for the ball, a streaky scoring touch and a knack for big shots, this kid has given the Owls new life. The addition of (C) Phil Bausk and the return of (F) Barry Nester has also given them a real presence in the paint. And, this without All-Star (F) Will Cheung. The Owls could be on track for a real dark horse run into the playoffs.

(G) Owen Wang

Kim had one of those flashes of brilliance last week that used to be commonplace for him. Can he take it into the playoffs? Wang has been solid all season and should be a big factor here.
(G) Mark Lee

(G) Manny Cuadrado

One of the league's most athletic guards, Lee can score with a penchant for big shots. Cuadrado has made a big splash in a short amount of time. With him, anything seems possible.
(F) David Ri

(G) Steve Liu

Ri is another young player who's doing big things for his team, leading IVC in scoring. Liu is a vet who has struggled with his shot. If he can get it going, he'll be a big asset to the Owls.
(F) Chris Youn

B+

(F) Will Cheung

There may be no player more versatile than Youn though he's been quiet this season. Cheung can do it all as well and has done so, and not yet with the new additions.
(C) Rowan Hardial

(C) Phil Bausk

Hardial is a solid defender and hustle guy, and he can score when he gets it going. Bausk is new to the team but has been an instant impact in the paint for SNO.

The Spartans have a solid bench of great hustle guys but with (G) James Choi coming off the bench now, they have an offensive punch, too. Talk about scrappy, this is the very description of the Night Owls. They stay competitive and this grind it out bench is a big reason.

Mike Kim (IVC)
G | 5-10 | 165 lbs
Week 7 Stats
PPG: 25.0
APG: 5.0
SPG: 4.0

This is the kind of performance of which we all knew Kim was very capable. He showed his trademark control and knack for finishing in the paint vs. ASN in a game where they needed to challenge (C) Brian O'Neill. IVC has won 3 straight.

Runner-Up:
Manny Cuadrado (SNO) 23 pts, 4 stl
Tony Hu (DFC)
F | 6-3 | 225 lbs
Week 7 Stats
PPG: 23.0
RPG: 7.0
APG: 7.0

Wel, this is rare. Everyone in the ORC lost so we'll have to give PoW to the best losing performance. That would be Hu. Another strong all around performance kept DFC in the game and gave them a chance against the upstart Night Owls.

Runner-Up: Brian O'Neill (ASN) 16 pts, 7 reb, 1 ast
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers

Len Kamdang (JLP) 9 pts, 12 reb

You just know Kamdang was up for this one. The veteran big picked up a season high 12 rebs against arch rivals The Punishers.

Runner-Up: Alex Shu (DFC) 9 reb, 3 stl, 1 blk
Defensive Player of the Week

Lamar Smith (JLP) 9 reb, 3 stl, 1 blk

Smith showed off his usual versatility in a win over PUN but he also got his team 1-on-1 stops on the defensive end when they needed one.

Runner-Up: Mike Kim (IVC) 4 reb, 4 stl
The High-5 Club

Will Halie (PUN) 7-4-1-1-2

Lamar Smith (JLP) 12-9-4-3-1

Discorama Rookie of the Week

Manny Cuadrado (SNO) 23 pts, 4 stl

He did it again and this time in a stunning upset win over DFC. If not for IVC (G) Mike Kim's command performance, he'd be PoW. He's a 16 year old.

Runner-Up: David Ri (IVC) 15 pts, 2 stl, 2 blk
The "John Starks" Award

Al Corporan (DBS) | 5-18 FG (.278)

Corporan just didn't get a lot of good looks in this one and not having (G) Sid Menon to spread the floor certainly didn't help.

Dishonorable Mention: Marlon Santos (PUN) 3-11 FGs
The "Chris Dudley" Award

Lamar Smith (JLP) | 4-8 FTs (.500)

Well, they won. So, we're pretty sure a few missed FTs aren't eating him up inside. As a team, JLP shot only 14-25 (.560) from the stripe.

Dishonorable Mention: Akin Moses (DBS) 0-4 FTs

NEW YORK CITY -- This week is yet another grudge match of longtime rivals. These games between what were originally the Club Trillion and Game of Death franchises have been known to get a little intense. Shots were fired leading up to this game all the way back in Week 1.

The Punishers can shoot and score in the paint with (C) Jeremy Bell. Unfortunately, they have lost their 2nd leading scorer (F) Randall Avery for the season. The addition of (F) Marlon Santos, however, should fill in the gaps and give them the slasher they desperately needed all season.

For the Fashionistas, their offensive attack starts with (G) Garrett James on the break. He will attack relentlessly and eventually wear any defense down. The Fashionistas feed on that. And, (F) Lamar Smith provides JLP with a versatile scorer in the half-court. -- Jeff Van Ghandi

It is going to be a challenge staying in front of James, which will be Greenberg's primary duty. James struggled last game and JLP lost to a beatable team.

The addition of Santos is huge for PUN. He is the missing link on offense. JLP's defense hasn't been great lately but if anyone can get it going, it's Smith.

Redhead is a shooter that's struggled to get shots, but he has set the table well, leading PUN in assists. Chang started strong but has tapered off a bit, also a solid passer.

Everyone on the PUN bench contributes which is good and bad. They need everyone to play well to win games and that hasn't always been there. JLP also has a solid bench with veteran players who can be game-changers.
