HYP (G) Leon Chu got the ball on a broken play and launched this 3-pointer at the buzzer. They would be his only 3 pts of the game.
Chu saves Hype with buzzer-beater MLK HS, NYC -- This one didn't always look like it would go down to the wire. The Hypebeasts jumped out to an early lead over the short-handed Airballers and it just felt like this game would be an easy win to help HYP get back on the right track. HYP was virtually scoring at will but Read more >>
TUR captain Wilson Lew has led his team to the top with steady, clutch play There might not be a more apt name in any division. The Fire Turtles don't make a lot of noise, they just win, slow and steady. And they've been on fire from the perimeter all season, making a league-high 55-116 (.474) 3FGs as a team. If not for a loss at the buzzer to GOD, they would be undefeated. The season looks pretty clearly divided at mid-season but rarely does it finish the same as it is in this review. -- The Jet
FASTBREAK NYC 2K10 FALL Mid-Season Review (Week 6)
They don't look intimidating but this is a veteran-laden squad that can get it done on both ends of the court. (G) Wilson Lew is having a career season and the improved play of (G) Joe Chin has solidified the back court. Rookie (F) Will Cheung has been a revelation.
TEAM GRADE: A+ | MVP: (G) Wilson Lew (16 ppg, 4.3 3FGpg, 4.2 apg)
Club Trillion is also a veteran team with a solid inside-outside balance but an inconsistent roster drops them just slightly below a red-hot Fire Turtles team. But don't count them out of anything yet, TRI is still just as much a favorite to win it all if they can field a full roster.
TEAM GRADE: A | MVP: (G) Kash Miah (18.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1 spg)
GOD still has some consistency issues but when they're the only team to beat TUR at full strength, (F) Rob Toste has been a huge addition. (F) Mamadou Hanne has been solid and if they can get (C) Paul Reid and (F) Min Park going, they'll be dangerous in the post season.
TEAM GRADE: B | MVP: (F) Mamadou Hanne (14.2 ppg, 9 rpg, 1 spg)
Hypebeasts are struggling with their frustration. The high-paced play and hard-nosed D that made them so good isn't offense where they've been inexplicably soft. This is a tough team that's stopped playing tough. (G) Ian Yu and (F) Jason Wu have been solid regardless so there's still hope.
TEAM GRADE: B- | MVP: (F) Jason Wu (16 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 2.8 spg)
You just don't know what to expect with this team and at mid-season, that's not a good position to be in. This is a franchise that is struggling to maintain right now. But, they have shown some signs of life when they have a solid roster. They just have to lock down their roster.
TEAM GRADE: C+ | MVP: (F) Anthony Fonseca (20 ppg, 6 rpg, 2 apg)
The Airballers finally got a win but they still haven't proven they can beat the league's stalwarts even with (G) Kavan Brandon's breakout season. Still, the Airballers, (F) Akin Moses and what may be a new recruit, bring plenty of talent to the table. They just have to put it together.
TEAM GRADE: C | MVP: (G) Kavan Brandon (20 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2 spg)
Their win-less record is a mystery really, they have plenty of solid players, plenty of size and they made noise last season. It just hasn't happened for JBB yet. Luckily, there is still time but they will have to get some momentum going into the playoffs. It won't get any easier.
TEAM GRADE: D | MVP: (F) Miguel Gaspar (11.2 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 1.2 spg)
Sadly, it appears the MLK team will not be joining the RED this season.
Observations... Kash and SDR need to qualify for playoffs, then fireworks... dunks by Rob "Toasty": 2... by 40-Cal: 1, Rest of the League: 0... Jason Wu, your rebuttal? ...if Justin "Jiggles" Chin stays on for the Turtles, that's the chip... vet Drew Chen nursing an ankle sprain, get well soon but not too soon... Len "Dunkin' Donuts" Kamdang is quietly having another solid season... the Walrus spits fire.
2K10 FALL Players of the Week (Wk 5 & 6)
Jason Wu (HYP) F | 6-0 | 175 lbs Week 5 & 6 Stats PPG: 21.5 RPG: 10.0 APG: 5.5
In his 2nd season in the RED, Wu has already proven to be one of the most electric players the league has ever seen. He put his athleticism and versatile game on full display toward his first triple-double against short-handed TRI.
Runner-Up: James Choi (TRI) 38 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast
Rob Toste (GOD) F | 6-3 | 180 lbs Week 5 & 6 Stats PPG: 21.0 RPG: 8.0 BPG: 3.0
"Toasty" has been an instant impact since joining the GOD roster. He's given them length on D and a strong finisher at the rim who can step out and hit the jumper as well. His shot at the buzzer vs. TUR gave the Turtles their first loss.
RU: Wilson Lew (TUR) 18.3 ppg, 4.3 3pg, 4 apg
The Sam Lo Award for Hustlers
M. Hanne (GOD) 18 pts, 10 rebs
Hanne has been the driving force for GOD. When he plays well, his team wins. He has been the consummate team player this season.
Runner-Up: Will Cheung (TUR) 8 rpg, 1.7 bpg
Defensive Player of the Week
Jason Wu (HYP), Rob Toste (GOD)
It's hard to argue with 10 steals and 3 blks over 2 weeks but Toste did it all vs. TUR as well with 2 stls, 3 blks. They'll share the award.
Runner-Up: Kavan Brandon (DBA) 5.5 rpg, 2.5 spg
The High-5 Club Joel Capili (TUR) 9-6-1-5-1 Glen Castergine (JBB) 7-13-1-1-1 Will Cheung (TUR) 13-13-1-1-2 Will Cheung (TUR) 12-10-1-1-1 Rob Toste (GOD) 21-8-2-2-3 Jason Wu (TRI) 21-13-10-7-2
Discorama Rookie of the Week DBA SUB (1) (DBA) 16 ppg, 11 rpg
We don't have his name yet but if he's a permanent roster add to DBA, he makes them significantly more athletic, something they needed.
Runner-Up: W. Cheung (TUR) 11 ppg, 8 rpg, 1.7 bpg
The "John Starks" Award Young Yu (TRI) | 2-14 FGs (.143)
This was a blowout loss and Yu had just finished a game as well. Nothing worth looking too deeply into. Yu has had better days and should still.
Dishonorable Mention: J. Campo (DBA) 2-12 FGs
The "Reverse Dudley" Award DBA SUB (1) (DBA) | 4-11 FTs (.364)
4-11 in two games, DBA's newest add may be able to dunk it with the best in the league but DBA might like a few of those freebies, too.
