About Us

Fastbreak NYC aka FBNYC is just one of many sports leagues and community-based programs operated by The Dynasty Project, a New York-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

FBNYC was founded in 2004 by entrepreneur Bobby Kwak as a community-based initiative set forth to promote athletics, networking and social action across all Asian-American communities in the Tri-State area.

The league has since evolved to become New York's most cutting edge, interactive and comprehensive recreational basketball league. Fastbreak NYC is open to players of any gender, ethnicity or skill level.

Our goal is to provide the most enjoyable recreational basketball experience in the city while maintaining firm roots in supporting and promoting Asian-American communities and athletics.

Fastbreak NYC

Fastbreak NYC is a collection of community-based sports leagues that promotes charity and social action amongst Asian American professionals in the NY and Tri-State area. A portion of all league fees are donated to charitable causes across the world.

FBNYC organizes leagues such as basketball, flag football and dodgeball as well as social events and volunteer opportunities for APIA professionals and donates a portion of all proceeds to charity.

The Crew

Ren Hsieh - The Commissioner
Ren took over as league Commish in 2006 and proceeded to renovate FBNYC to its current incarnation. Hsieh has played ball in myriad capacities in four different continents and plans to make it all seven. It's seven right? His favorite place he's ever played? In the mountains of Suzhou. Yes, there was a goal there.

When not a freelance writer contributing to a number of sports and non-related sports publications including the Houston Chronicle, Bounce Magazine and Tor.com, Hsieh is working overtime running FBNYC, a place he has described as, "a fantastical realm built of hardwood and nylon where everyone discovers their inner superstar. For better or for worse."

Liren Teng - The Brains
Dur.

Annie Lee - The Looks
Miss Lee is our stat girl extraordinaire. Also a ball player and part of the NY Sabres organization, Lee always finds a way to sneak out of practice and help out with a few games. Her abilities to track your stats are marvelous and unquestionable.

Annie is replacing former Hit Girl, Gina Kwak, who met her now husband, Andy Kim, while doing stats for FBNYC, the league's first foray into social networking.

Bryant Picone - The Muscle
Bryant is actually a two-time Defensive MVP in the BLUE league who started doing video for us and now won't stop. Can't stop. We can't wrestle the camera from his hands. Literally, his hands are too big and the strap has fused to his skin.

Duke Hogwild - The Wildcard
It's been awhile since Duke has done anything for Fastbreak NYC but he set the bar with FBNYC's early video montages earning fabricated awards in numerous fictional genres. He is slated to make a return to the editing room Fall 2010.

Aaron Hsieh - The Intern
This summer FBNYC will have its first official intern. Aaron is currently a senior at Rice University studying Sports Management and minoring in Business. Outside of Fastbreak, Aaron has worked as the Director of Youth Involvement for the Reach Music Festival, interned in Sponsorship and Game Day activities for the Texans as well as on a research project about the relationship between the Rockets and China for the Houston Rockets.

Staff Writers

Each of our staff writers provide recaps and previews for almost every FBNYC game. Each also has an aptly chosen pseudonym so they can write directly without fear of reprisal.

It is vital that their identities be kept secret for the sake of worthwhile content. The current Muderer's Row by order of seniority:
